Mary Cabell Kennedy ‘46, age 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2023. Born in Richmond, Virginia, on March 1, 1928, she grew up with a strong sense of family and tradition. A proud graduate of St. Margaret’s School, Mary carried with her the values of faith, education, and community throughout her life.
On November 23, 1949, she married the love of her life, Ralph Donald Kennedy, with whom she built a beautiful life filled with love and devotion. Before marriage, Mary embarked on an exciting career as a secretary for The New York Stock Exchange in Manhattan, where she experienced firsthand the vibrancy of the financial world. Her time in New York left her with cherished memories and stories that she would later recount with warmth and humor.
An accomplished seamstress, Mary had an extraordinary talent for creating beautiful garments and crafts, a skill she shared generously with family and friends. Beyond her creativity, she had a gift for storytelling, weaving tales of her family’s history and her adventures in New York with vivid detail and wit. Her ability to bring the past to life made her a treasured presence at family gatherings.
Above all, Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
