Katherine Mahon Kay May, ‘79

Katherine Mahon Kay May was born to Robert Allen Kay and Margaret Anne Rowe of Newtown, Virginia, on December 7, 1960. She passed away after a brief battle with cancer on April 27, 2024. She was a member of Upper King and Queen Baptist Church since the age of 13. She graduated from Aylett Country Day School in 1974. Graduated from Saint Margaret's School in Tappahannock in 1979. Katherine was Princess Soya in 1979. She graduated from The College of William and Mary with a B.A. in English in 1983. Known by friends as "Kathy"” she had a variety of jobs. She was an Assistant Buyer for La Vogue. She was the Manager for Stitches. She was an Advertising Copywriter for Service Merchandise and Southern States. She was a Sales Representative for Worth Higgins. She held various positions in advertising and marketing for Mead.

Kathy was President and on the Board of Directors of Ad 2 Richmond, where she met friends and husband Michael of 34 years. She is survived by husband, Michael G. May of Glen Allen and Lake Anna, Virginia; sisters Robin Westman (Mark) and Betty Whiteside, all of Goochland, Virginia. Also niece Anne Paige Selimovic (Ermin) and sons Tarik and Benjamin of Henrico, Virginia; nephew Robert Allen Whiteside and niece Kaylyn Elizabeth Whiteside of Goochland, Virginia; Michael's brother, Gordon (Frankie) and many beloved nieces and nephews residing in North Carolina.

Mike and Kathy split their time between Glen Allen, Virginia, and their beloved "Mayview" on Lake Anna, Virginia. Mike and Kathy got involved with the Lake Anna fireworks show at the turn of the century. Through her marketing expertise, fundraising for the annual show has quadrupled. Entertaining friends and family at Lake Anna was her greatest time.
