St. Margaret's winter varsity basketball and soccer teams won their first-round games in the League of Independent Schools tournament in February, finishing a challenging season in style.
Senior co-captain Sara Newman of White Stone is a versatile point guard for St. Margaret's varsity basketball team.
"Our winter season athletes contended with injuries and illnesses," said Varsity Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Sue Ball. "But they and their coaches rose above it with St. Margaret's determination and a 'never give up' attitude to post records of which we all can be proud."An unbeatable combination of assists by junior co-captain Kristina Bethea and baskets by sophomore starter Fola Ogundiran fueled a first-round Scotty basketball victory over St. Vincent's School, 70-18. St. Margaret's fell in the second round to a tough Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot team. Team members awarded season honors to senior co-captain Sara Newman, most valuable player, and sophomore Lindsay Neist, most improved player. Ms. Ball gave the coach's award to Kristina Bethea.
