NEWMAN SELECTED TO STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM IN SCOTLAND
Hannah Newman, a junior at St. Margaret’s School, was recently selected by Woodberry Forest School to attend a co-educational summer study abroad program in Scotland.

Five local girls were among several students who earned recognition for their athletic accomplishments during St. Margaret’s Annual Fall Sports Breakfast on Nov. 5.

ST. MARGARET’S STUDENTS HOLD MOCK ELECTION
St. Margaret’s Senior Corbin Brooks, a day student from Essex County, thinks it’s important for the U.S. president to be able to relate to people but also possess the composure and knowledge to tackle problems. Sophomore Hallie Smith says the president should be able to make decisions under pressure, do what is right for the people, and keep American morals and needs in mind while also helping other countries.

On Nov. 3, St. Margaret’s students discussed career options, higher education and women in the workplace with more than 40 professional women, many of them St. Margaret’s alumnae.

Three graduates of the St. Margaret’s School Class of 2008 have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) exams.

SCOTTIES CLAIM TOP SPOT IN CROSS COUNTRY MEET
The St. Margaret’s Cross Country Team claimed the top spot against West Point during a tri-meet at home Oct. 8. Essex County fielded three JV runners for the competition.

STUDENTS COMPLETE RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER SWIM
On Sept. 14, twenty-two St. Margaret’s students and faculty jumped in the Rappahannock River to compete in the annual one mile River Swim.

Assistant Attorney General Lawrence “Chip” Muir is no stranger to the dangers of the Internet. As a state attorney who prosecutes computer crimes, he is all too familiar with the consequences of misusing a computer.

The St. Margaret’s Field Hockey Scotties defeated the Lancaster Red Devils 2-1 during the third game of the season Sept. 16.

For the second fall sports season, St. Margaret’s will be taking advantage of their cross-country trail and playing fields at the new athletic complex on Sycamore Drive in Tappahannock.

TEACHERS ON THE BAY CELEBRATES ITS 20TH YEAR AT ST. MARGARET'S
Now in its twentieth year, Teachers on the Bay, a summer graduate- level course run in partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Virginia Commonwealth university, brings elementary and secondary teachers here to learn how to take the science and magic of this water to their own students.

ST. MARGARET’S STUDENTS HONORED AT AWARDS BANQUET
St. Margaret's School students have won academic awards and special prizes that make them eligible for college scholarship consideration if they apply to and are accepted by the sponsoring institutions. The awards were presented at the school's year-end Academic Awards Banquet on Friday, May 30.

ST. MARGARET’S GRADUATES 28 SENIORS
St. Margaret's School graduated 28 members of the Class of 2008 on Saturday, May 31. Graduates of this class will be attending some of the nation’s top colleges, including 6 colleges in Virginia, schools in 10 additional states including Colorado, New York, and Georgia, and one school in Switzerland.
